An Opportunity for Confirmation

•

In November we’re holding a confirmation service in Northleach. It’s a wonderful opportunity for those who have not been confirmed before. Perhaps that’s you, or you know someone else who might consider it.

In the Church of England, confirmation is a service where the Bishop prays for you, lays hands on you, and asks God to strengthen you with the Holy Spirit. It’s a moment when you say for yourself, in front of your church family, “Yes, I follow Jesus.”

What’s involved?

The confirmation service will be held on Sunday 15th November at Northleach, with Bishop David Jennings presiding.

We’ll hold three preparation sessions,

  • Thursday 5th, Tuesday 10th, Friday 13th November
  • 7.30pm at the Vicarage

We’ll chat about what we believe, how we pray, what the Church of England is, and what faith means in everyday life. There’ll be tea and cake, and a warm welcome.

Coming to the sessions doesn’t commit you to being confirmed. Some people come along and decide the time is right. Some decide it isn’t, and that’s fine. Either way, you’ll have had good conversations, and that is never wasted.

Perhaps you’ve got questions:

What if I’m not sure what I believe. You don’t need to have it all worked out. You don’t need to be an expert on the Bible, and you don’t need to have been in church every Sunday of your life. Doubts and questions are welcome. The preparation classes are a great opportunity to discuss your questions about faith.

What if I’ve never been baptised? If you’d like to explore that, there’s room for you. Baptism and confirmation can happen at the same service, and we’d love to talk it through with you.

What if I’m new to the Church of England? Perhaps you grew up Methodist, Catholic, Baptist or something else, and you’ve found your home among us. As part of the Confirmation Service the Bishop formally welcomes people into the Church of England, so you can be received into our family without leaving behind everything you’ve known and loved.
